    • @Dean surely a application that improves upon QR coding isn’t a threat. Upcode operates in 60 countries is totally Free for the User but provides Advertisers something that QR coding along does not give them. Monetizing QR coding is a good thing. Scaning and going to a URL is cool but how do you make money with QR Codes alone? Perhaps you like to tell us all and lets have a healthy discussion about it here. So yes Upcode Analytics and Engine is proprietary. but the end user certainly won’t care as its 100% Free.

  1. UPcode provides zero, nada, zilch, none, null advantage over QR codes, i cant make that argument strongly enough.

The fact they are free is of no advantage at all.

QR codes are free AND supported by a ton of different handset reader/encoders/applications so you are never stuck with one startup who may fail.

In addition QR readers are always going to be the most widely installed readers….any proprietary version of 2D codes are going to be pushing that issue…….unless there is an amazing difference (and of the 12 proprietary initiatives i’ve seen….there isnt).

Brian, there is more information on http://www.Cognation.net/QR -if there is something specific you want to write about email me and i’ll help you write an article.

    • Dean, I had to do some checking to verify my findings and Upcode is not proprietary and is a QR code. The functionality of the Codes the ability to program in multiple countries etc makes it somewhat unique. I think we can support each other rather than fight about perceptions. A standard will emerge based on a number of factors. I have reviewed your site and while it seems you are an advocate for QR codes, I think it may be more meaningful to discuss what the true differences are from one vendor to another Okay they are all free to use. Got that. There are hundreds of readers and companies supporting QR Codes. Some will make it some won’t. I get your recommendation to make sure that the QR code is tied to your server rather than a third party. What is the business model? As an expert how do you monetize QR Coding? And please take this opportunity to tell us when Congation.net is superior to every other QR Code in the World. Here is your shot. Again UpCode may be just be a branded QR Code, But so is Dasani, Great Bear, Poland Springs etc. All water in each of the bottles. Is this a similar case? As water sales in the USA is in the Billions. Who is the King of QR Codes? And if there is no apparent King yet, let the race begin by being clear what your recommendation is and why.
